A fabulous find! This lovely hippopotamus was made by the porcelain manufacturer (porzellan manufaktur) "Nymphenburg" of Western Germany. They are world famous for their exquisite craftsmanship and their handmade processes and expert designers and artists. This hippopotamus, item #399 was made in 1915 and designed by Emil Manz, and he named it Mathilda the hippo. She is calm with her head lowered and a quiet stare. Stamped on the bottom with the Nymphenburg checkered shield with the crown on the top and "Western Germany" along with an impressed mark and the numbers "16" and "399". Measures 3 1/4" x 9 1/4" and stands 4 3/4" tall.  An awesome piece!
